Overview

DCAYA believes that there are multiple viable pathways for youth to become successful and productive members of society. The Youth Workforce Development Committee works to ensure that the District continues to develop and strengthen its system of work-readiness services, skills training and certification programs, and employment opportunities for young people.

For many youth from distressed communities, the challenges of poverty, low graduation rates, high unemployment, teen parenthood, violence, criminal activity and drug use often impeded their ability to successfully transition into adulthood. Moreover, without the necessary academic skills, credentials, and supports to compete in the labor market, their chances of breaking these cycles is bleak.

DCAYA's advocacy efforts are centered around the recommendations that come out of our robust Membership Committees. These committees serve as bi-monthly round tables for the various concerns of direct service providers, policy professionals, nationally engaged organizations,DCAYA's staff, and our Board of Directors. Monthly meetings allow DCAYA to respond to current issues and concerns in the Youth Workforce Development sector in a timely manner while also serving to keep us connected to our valuable base of service providers.
